review: clash of the titans
Through the years we have covered the work of Heather Pen - a truly special artist who creates incredible Halloween displays that incorporate massive, customized inflatable creatures that tower over her home’s yard display. Every season, the props get bigger, the lights get brighter, and the fog gets thicker. Heather’s front yard and home become a unique world in which her imagination runs free for the delight of everyone who visits.
This year's theme is “Clash of the Titans” - something we never expected to see at a Halloween haunt! We will start by stating the obvious - yes that is a 30 foot Kraken dwarfing her house. And yes it is absolutely insane to see in person as its tail wraps all the way around the roof and into the backyard. This larger than life inflatable overlooks a yard that is decorated with tons of the film's scenes and characters. We loved the Stygian Witches who were lurking above their cauldron as its green brew boiled from the roasting fire. Behind them stood Cerberus, frozen in mid-fight. The main cast of Clash of the Titans were all skeletons - a signature twist utilized by Pen that adds another layer of creativity to her work.
The work of Heather Pen isn’t to be missed. She is an incredible person who creates a Halloween show year after year for her neighborhood to enjoy. Her Halloween parties are legendary and even come with her own Disney-eque trading pins themed to the year's haunt. This year's pin is a beautiful, silver Bubo the Owl. Pen’s day job is working with large birds - so her choosing the character that is Athena’s Owl makes complete sense!
