review: Corona haunt

Through the past decade, Corona Haunt has converted a modest side yard and garage in Riverside County to a theme park quality haunt. This is a maze where no stone is left unturned as their attention to detail surpasses most other haunts by always managing to go an extra mile. Its creators, Mason Legerski and Jason Roath, have been doing this since they were teens (rising up with other new blood, young haunt builders that included Murder House Productions, Twisted Minds, Opechee, Rosewood Manor, etc). For 2022, possibly the maze’s final year, Corona Haunt has brought together its greatest hits with “The Spirits of Haunts Past”.

This retrospective walkthrough maze, located at the Legerski family home, combines vignettes of haunt themes from the past four years, including “Scarecrow: The Beginning (2018)”, “Sweet Tooth: Sinister Factory (2019)”, “Shadow Mountain (2020)” and “Tales of Halloween (2021). The Spirits of Haunts Past includes all of the qualities of Corona Haunt that we love: the perfectly timed scare actors, the neon nightmare sets, the sonic sounds, and the incredible production precision. We can’t emphasize enough how much we love Corona Haunt and much awe we were in during our possibly final visit ever.

While we were lucky enough to visit Corona Haunt this weekend, we couldn’t help but feel sad that this was likely our last time there. Their home haunt and pop-ups at Midsummer Scream have always been wonderful highlights to celebrate the season. However, the taxing work of creating a home haunt is very real and very exhausting. We hope that Corona Haunt hasn’t been buried in its grave forever, and that we can see it rise again from the darkness and find life in a new location. We greatly appreciate the hard work this team has put into creating incredible haunts for over a decade. We are also thankful that Corona Haunt has consistently inspired and astounded the haunt community by creating a celebratory destination for haunters from all across Southern California.
